HELP SUPPORT VULNERABLE CHILDREN AND THEIR FAMILIES IN AFGHANISTAN

The situation in Afghanistan is perilous. The final weeks of the international security mission in Afghanistan ended on August 31st 2021 when the last of the U.S. forces troops left Kabul. Since the withdrawal, the Taliban have consolidated their harsh control over the country, imposing severe restrictions over the lives of women. As well as denying an education, they have hunted down citizens with ties to the West. Occasional violent clashes and conflicts have occurred between the various factions of the Taliban and still from time to time - non-Taliban militants continue to commit terrorist acts of violence.
What is more concerning is that the Afghan economy is in a state of free-fall and during winter famine has become a harsh reality. Daughters are being sold at local markets for food. Young girls and women are the most vulnerable and at the greatest risk. There are currently approximately 2.5 million registered and unregistered Afghan refugees in Pakistan alone, and this number is growing as brutal repression and economic collapse affects millions.

Efforts to provide support have evolved with the situation on the ground. Please excuse our lack of specificity, as we need to balance transparency with the security for those still in Afghanistan. To date we have directly or indirectly supported the evacuation of many Afghans to a safer environment.

We proudly work with other organizations and individuals combining our strengths to add maximum value to the lives of those we help

In some cases, we have been able to fully facilitate departures out of Afghanistan. We have also helped small groups of refugees travel by land out of Afghanistan to safe harbors all over the world.
.

We have assisted Afghan individuals and families in dire need of aid. Many situations are heart breaking, but we strive to help as many people as possible. To respect people's privacy and safety we cannot disclose too many details. Many victims are on the run from the Taliban, hiding without any money and are threatened by those restricting their access to their most basic human rights

None of us know what will happen next in Afghanistan. All we can do is work towards peace. With the aim to achieve the goal of safety for those who need it. The challenges facing Afghanistan are enormous at Help Children Now, we will continue to help where possible, but we urge the world not to forget the people of Afghanistan

An unexpected blessing of this recognized arduous work is that we have met so many truly amazing people and organizations dedicated to supporting our friends and colleagues in Afghanistan. What is certain is that despite all the bad in the world, people have the extraordinary ability to come together for the common good of goodwill and humanity

Thank you
